Our cute as a button Skylar has been celebrating the 17th birthday of her favourite hangout, Second Life, for the last 2 weeks! Somewhere in the wee hours of last night, she stumbled home and caught a few zzz’s. Skylar, with her high-waisted, comfy jersey skirt, and eyebrow-raising peekaboo crop-top has now made an appearance in the Slink Mainstore, freshened up with brand new textures, new material maps, and 4 new colours, as well as the option to pick up a single colour, if that’s what you want. You can get all 12 super cute stripes, for our usual 2.5x the single price!

Big Body Update @ Slink!

I have just popped into the redelivery terminals, for your unpacking pleasure, the latest update to the Slink body systems!

Everything Redux has been updated today! Slink Physique (Original, Hourglass and Male, and the Bundles), the Slink male and female feet, the Slink male and female hands and the Slink Visage heads.

There are a couple of important features added to this update. In particular:

  • A new neck fitting option has been added to the female Redux bodies and heads so that they can be seamless with the SL default avatar when your body fat slider is set to 0.
  • The Redux male body and heads have also been adjusted to be seamless with the SL default avatar at body fat size 0.
    • These things have the added advantage of being seamless with other brands mesh bodies and heads.
  • I have added a new ALPHA button to the Physique Utilities HUDs for Redux, which will send you a big megapack of alpha layers for every possible need!
  • I have added a number of chat commands that you can use to turn on and off bits and pieces without having to wear the HUD and clicky the buttons!
    • /15 fingernails on (or off) to enable or disable the fingernails
    • /15 toenails on (or off) to enable or disable the toenails
    • /15 stretch on (or off) to enable or disable the shirt stretch (female bodies only)
    • /15 nipples on (or off) to enable or disable the nipples (female bodies only)
    • /15 crotch on (or off) to enable or disable the smooth panty or smooth crotch
    • /15 butt on (or off) to enable or disable the smooth bottom section
  • I have reworked all of the skins that we include with Redux for men and women. There are more skintones with new faces, more options for fingertip and toetip corrective tattoos for non-slink skins, there are PG patches, eyebrows, and for men, beards, body hair and hairbases!
  • We have also fixed a few bugs along the way,
  • And completely rearranged how the body parts unpack to make it easier to understand what to use when and how:
    • Previously you would receive a number of folders, or click on several buttons on the unpacker HUD to receive your items however, that proved to be unwieldy and difficult to maintain, so I have simplified it right down to it’s essence.
    • Now when you wear the initial Slink unpacker HUD, it will send you one single folder with 2 unpackers inside it, plus a notecard detailing Classic and Redux so you can make an informed decision as to which body you need to unpack. Then simply wear the one you need. If you are wearing the Redux unpacker, you will be sent one single folder, and the essential items are right at the top of the folder ready for you to just wear! If you hit “decline” on the folder, you can just click the unpacker and it will send you another one!!
    • If you are a Redux bundle wearer, all of the individual body, hands and feet are included (in their own unpackers right at the bottom of the folder) along with your bundle item, but you do not need to unpack them unless you want to mix and match with other bodies. Just wear your bundle item, and it’s HUD and you’re good to go!

There is also a small update for those of you who still use the Classic body parts – we have made a change to a couple of the internal scripts. You may update if you wish, but it’s not essential!

The Slink Physique Classic (appliers) Body is STAYING!

Hey Slinkies,

As I’ve received the question a few times now, let me clear something up: We are not taking the Classic body parts away! Neither Original, nor Hourglass, nor Male, nor any of the separate hands and feet.

In the notecard I mention a date after which I had planned to take it out of the vendor (at which point the version in your inventory would continue to workΒ and anyone who bought the body could still get a Classic body upon request). I’ve decided to change this. In the next update, I’ll remove the date from the notecard and the Classic body will remain packed in with the Redux body far into the future.

I’m writing this blog now as the update is still a little while away and I didn’t want this to be unclear for folks.

To clarify the original date a little; when I wrote the notecard with Caine, we figured a year from release would be a long enough timeline for people to happily switch to BoM. It was never our intent to force people to do so, and again, the Classic version was to be still available upon request!

To restate this again – Classic isn’t going anywhere and will remain packed in with the Redux body for anyone who prefers to use Classic.

Classic will also continue to work for as long as you have it. We are not and CAN not remove it or make it stop working in any way.

New instore @ Slink this week

We have a couple of new releases in Slink this week! Read on, fellow Slinkies πŸ™‚

First up – I received a few requests from men for Male Dynamic compatible versions of the exxxxxxxxtra long nails that I released for women a week earlier, so here they are!

Designed for Slink Dynamic Male Hands – each set comes with 3 lengths controlled by a handy little HUD. Turn off the nails on your hands before wearing these πŸ™‚

And now – the single most requested item in my to-do list is finally here! BUTT PHYSICS!

I have just today placed on the wall at Slink 2 new augments for the Physique Female body system – the Hourglass Natural Bottom augment and the Original Natural Bottom augment. Naturally these are compatible with the bodies specified in their names and only compatible with Slink bodies. There is also a physics layer included to give you that sexy jiggle – modifiable so you can adjust the settings to your own liking. Redux (bakes on Mesh) only.

(NOTE – May not be compatible with mesh clothing that covers the bottom. In that case, just remove the augment!)

New Male Head, Ears and a gift @ Slink!

It’s been so long since I’ve been able to release NEW things that I hardly know what to do with myself!

This week we have a new man at Slink – Finn. A gorgeous chap with a strong nose and brooding brows.

I have also created a new set of ear augments especially for Visage. They are cute little round ears that stick out from your head more than the default ears do, and they have little round lobes! Both male and female compatible versions are available in the same pack.

A little update of Redux

The Slink Redux Body system will now accept materials appliers from any Slink compatible layer applier. Previously it was restricted to skin appliers only but opening up the materials from other layers gives even more options for customisation than before. You can wear your slinky shiny catsuit system layer with it’s custom materials applier for even more shine. Appliers for things like wet skin effects that are set to the tattoo layer that can now be used on the Redux system.

There are no separate layers on Redux so whichever materials applier you use is the one you will see.

This update is now in the servers so visit a redelivery terminal and request a new copy of your purchases!

Please ensure you have Advanced Lighting on, or you will not be able to see these effects on your body.

Note – this system ONLY affects materials, not textures. Redux does not require texture appliers, it uses system layers for textures.

GLOSSARY:

  • Bakes on Mesh – A checkbox applied to mesh objects that allows them to display the merged texture worn on the system avatar. Hides the system avatar when enabled
  • Slink Redux – The Slink brand to indicate the Bakes on Mesh compatible version of the Slink Physique, Avatar Enhancement and Visage body parts.
  • Texture – the file that shows the colour of your mesh object ie: the skin you can see in the image above. A Bakes on Mesh object uses System Layers (skins, tattoos, undershirt, underpants, socks, pants, shirts etc) to display textures.
  • Materials – special texture files that display non colour information – ie: the shiny droplets you can see in the image above. These are commonly referred to as Shine/Sheen/Bump/Normal/Materials and are applied to the body using an applier HUD.
  • Applier HUD – an object made from prims and scripts that is programmed to send a Unique ID number from itself to a script listening in the body, via a mouse click/button press. This tells the body what item to display and where. Not necessary for Redux, unless you want to change nail polish, or add materials to your body.

 

Slink Redux Body complexity questions

Avatar complexity is a hot topic in SL circles at the moment, with Bakes on Mesh giving us the opportunity to drastically reduce our complexity by removing scripts, applier textures and onion layers from our mesh body bits! Here at Slink, the rendering cost of our bodies is an important issue, as the lower we can make it, the more our customers can do with their avatars without worrying about pushing their complexity way up simply by wearing our body bits. Higher complexity avatars make SL more challenging for everyone.

To that end, we work very hard to optimise, reduce and rethink when we have the opportunity to, and Bakes on Mesh gave us that chance. This is why we didn’t simply add a Bakes on Mesh flag to our existing body parts, and instead spent a very long time making sure this version was as streamlined and efficient as possible, without compromising on the actual look, functionality and usability of the system. It is also why we won’t be adding alpha cuts back into the Redux system and instead ask wearers to use alpha layers.

I would like to present the avatar complexity cost as calculated by the Second Life Official viewer for all of the Slink Redux body updates. I also put on one of our new heads for good measure!

Final thoughts

The maximum complexity from a complete Slink body system including separate body, hands and feet, body and head is just over 12k.

Adding more layers to Redux does not affect complexity, which is the whole point of Bakes on Mesh. The new layer texture is baked into the layers underneath it, and then sent to the mesh body part so that the SL client can see it as one single texture.Β  Slink Redux (without materials) will always be rendering 3 1024 textures as head, torso and legs, as opposed to potentially upwards of 20 textures if all 4 layers are on and displaying 1024 textures on the previous version – the Physique Classic. With Redux, you can wear up to 60 or more layers without increasing your complexity by even a single digit.

Updated and New Heads @ Slink

I am pleased to finally announce new heads @ Slink this week! These are the first heads we have released in 4 years, due to various technical limitations and other things needing our focus, but the recent Bakes on Mesh release in Second Life has significantly increased our available time for new content! So here they are, the first in what will hopefully be many, of the Slink Visage Redux Range. More details about these heads will follow the pictures below.

First up we have Emma. Emma is an update to the original Emma released a few years ago. She is fully Bento ready and uses Bakes on Mesh for skins and makeup. If you previously purchased Emma, you will find this update in the redelivery terminals.

Next up is cute little Becky. Like Emma, she is an update to the previous version of Becky, and also available in the redelivery terminals.

Sweet Jacquie is new to the Visage range. She is a soft, youthful face with a slightly melancholy lilt about her eyes. Of course she is fully Bento animated and you can adjust her shape with your face sliders. She uses Bakes on Mesh for her textures.

Gorgeous Amelia is up next. She is a more angular face with strong cheekbones and square jaw. Again, Amelia is fully Bento and Bakes on Mesh compatible.

Last but not least in the female faces is Ashlynn. Ashlynn has a beautiful aquiline nose and strong jaw. She is probably my favourite of all the ladies!

All Slink Visage heads are fully seamless with Slink Physique bodies. Just wear and go! Full working demos are available! Please try before you buy πŸ™‚

The Visage Utilities HUD has been redesigned along the same theme as the Physique Utilities HUD for the Redux system. On the HUD you will find options for eyelashes, tinting panels for lashes, HD Lipgloss, skin and specular, as well as our animation system.

The animations include an idle that can run all the time in the background, a series of static poses for photography purposes, and a series of chat emotes. You can see what the chat emotes are and how they work by clicking the ? next to “emotes on” to bring up the emotes help panel.

Each pack comes with skins, brows and shapes for you to get started with.

These heads do not come with mesh eyes. You can use your system eyes, or use your own mesh eyes if you choose.

You must remove your full head alpha layer in order to see the Visage Redux heads properly.

Please note – these heads do NOT use appliers for skin, only system layers. Materials (bump and shine) are still handled by appliers and both Slink and Omega appliers will work for this. If using Omega, wear the included Omega Bridge and install the Slink Omega kit from the Omega marketplace store.

 

Slink @ Uber Summer Lovin’

Slink is a guest of the lovely Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice at this month’s round of UBER. The theme is Summer Lovin’ so while shivering in the Australian winter, I made this sexy little strappy Bikini for you!

Athena is available now in 16 colours and 6 multipack extra patterns to match with Baiastices’s Olympia gladiator heels which Sissy has also released this month. She is made exclusively for the Slink Physique Original and Hourglass bodies, and their Petite Augments.
