Cyclone Season.

A few weeks ago I decided that in order to get away from all the stress of the Brisbane floods, it would be a really good idea to visit my family in Cairns.  2 days after I arrived, this happened.  Needless to say, I am very unimpressed, and my family is in disaster survival mode.  For the record, this cyclone is category 5, 2000km wide from top to base, and very, very dangerous, and I find myself right in it’s path.

The rain and wind have just started to pick up now, and we have about 9 hours before the monster officially starts to cross the coast.  I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried, I am terribly worried and a little frightened, as nothing like this has been seen in Australia in living memory, so no one knows what to expect.

For those of you in the US, this is a Hurricane Katrina equivalent cyclone, just spinning in the opposite direction.  Please keep us in Queensland in your thoughts, we’ve really been through a hell of a lot lately, but this just takes the cake.

For my customers, I am offline from now, until this is over.  We may lose power, so I could be offline for a week or more.  I will respond to your queries as soon as I can, please be patient.

Watching from Canberra, with family in Queensland. Trying to think of a way to help without getting in the way. I lived in Cairns a few years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Siddean. May you and yours be well and safe. And get back soon to happily creating more wonderful shoes for us.

OMG I can’t believe what is happening to you amazing Queenslander’s. My heart goes out to you all. I just wonder how much more your State can stand. You all make me so proud to be an Australian and I’m humbled by your strength.

    We’re all behind you. xx

Hi Siddean, here a hug from across the globe. I am an ex-backpacker AND emigrant from Australia (Surfer’s Paradise) and remember some hefty storms which frightened the pants off me – which are like ‘sperm’ compared to this sucker coming.
My thoughts are with you and everyone else up there in Cairns!

    xxx Sascha
