In the spirit of tolerance

I have just read Ivey Deschanel‘s post on tolerance in SL and I find myself agreeing with about everything she has said!  I had planned to do this eventually, but I thought now was the right time.  This is a brief look how far someone can come in just a year, with the right encouragement and support.  What you are seeing here is the evolution of SLink skins.  I am very proud of my skins, and the rest of my colletion, and how far I have come, but also very aware of the fact that I still have a very long way to go before I will be happy with my products, if ever.

Encourage, don’t discourage new designers, you never know who they will become in a year or 2!! And laugh at yourself, you will have more fun that way!

    Wasted sympathy.
I agree with you that it’s not right to tear apart new designers who come wide-eyed and enthusiastic to Sl, posting their first creations.
This is NOT the case here. The designer herself inform her readers that she has been in SL at last 2 years. She claim to be the first who came with certain stuff in SL, like flovery chokers 2 years ago, and a paper dress 1 year ago.
She claim to be a RL designer with a sucsessful shop in SL and many faithful customers who love her work. Her own words.
She then attack a new designer of copying her idea, since she means that she and only she should have the “right” of using paper textures in SLclothing.
She was shown clearly all the faults in her clothing. It was done both in a rude, and a more helpful way. I think that a new designer with a more humble and modest approach wouldn’t get all the nasty comments. Well I hope so anyway.
This designer should have been protected from herself. There should be some control of what they let into the Fashion feed.

Marianne, I agree with you. This post was not directed toward that particular designer, as she is not a new designer at all. It was more directed toward that Flickr photostream, and those that commented and laughed, who seemed intent to pull everyone down. I would have been devastated to find myself on that stream a year ago when I was just starting out. I would have been devastated to find myself there this week. It wasn’t right, and I am glad it’s not active anymore.
